Elena HUll Cournot

Elena is a painter, designer, and creative arts therapist with a private practice in the West Village. She has designed the interiors for her husband’s two NYC restaurants, Ruffian Wine Bar & Chef's Table and Kindred.  Elena has an ongoing series of soulful horse paintings that she began during her artist in residence at the Burren College of Art on the west coast of Ireland. She works between her studio in Brooklyn and out on Eastern Long Island. She loves the intermix of art, culture, design, landscape and personal story.  Her time in San Francisco, New York City, Taos, and the west coast of Ireland have influenced her aesthetic.  Elena lives in Brooklyn with her husband Patrick and daughter Lila.

 NYTimes review of Ruffian

"Elena Hull Cournot, Mr. Cournot’s wife, has given this tight alley a surprisingly light, almost airy design, although the detail I remember most is the portrait of a horse on the back wall. She painted it with it a garland of orange flowers around its neck, like a lei. It has kind eyes and a nonjudgmental expression, fine traits in a portrait that hangs in a bar. A friend who has a lot of horse sense said, “The horse looks wise.”
